Oxygen Tanks

A person who is prescribed oxygen therapy will require a source of oxygen to meet their required needs.  One method to obtain the necessary oxygen is through the use of an Oxygen Tank (also referred to as, an Oxygen Cylinder). Oxygen tanks are used to store compressed oxygen in the form of a gas, or a liquid. Today, lighter aluminum tanks have replaced the heavy steel tanks that were once used. They are also available in various sizes; from small to large; to comply with your intake requirements and satisfy your level of comfort, based on how much weight you can handle for portable use.

Below is list of some sizes (weights are based on an empty tank):

M4/A: About 9 inches long, weight about 1.5 lbs

M6/B: About 1foot long, weight about 2.25 lbs

M7: About 10 inches long; weight about 3 lbs

M9/C: About 12 inches long; weight about 4 lbs

D: About 1 1/2 feet long; weight about 5 lbs

E: About 2 feet long; weight about 8 lbs

Keep in mind that you will require multiple sized tanks and will need to work with your local DME provider to keep them filled and operating properly. From the larger D and E oxygen cylinders for use in the home; to the M6, M7, and M9/C for portable oxygen use; you have multiple options when choosing the correct size tanks to match up with your variety of needs.
